A Dull Girl

Do you every get tired of yourself? That's what drove me into the studio today with the box cutter to do some cardboard box therapy and clean up a rat hole of empty boxes. After a few hours of slashing and trashing I felt much better. But I have been a dull girl for the last week.

I did the painting on canvas in acrylic of the peach tree. My peach tree is right outside my studio where I can watch the peaches fatten up day by day. Peach ice cream. Peach cobbler. Peaches!!

The painting went on for days; it was like that book "One Hundred Years of Solitude" only it was about the painting that went on forever.

Or maybe it was me. It's been two years since I've done a large (24x30") painting on canvas. Maybe I have to work through some stuff before I get my chops back.

Anyway I'm calling it done and have set it aside. It kept me busy and distracted which was a good thing.

I like the part about the peach angels. They are up there right now sorting through the bins to bring me some really good ones. They always do.

Plus I got to paint a face. I like painting faces. I noticed that most of the paintings I own are of faces. Faces and abstracts for the most part. Predominantly faces though.

The voice is soft and legible for about 500 words and then it poops out on me. Voice therapy next. Shellie predicted that by this fall I will be back in full sail. I'm holding onto that. In the meantime I made 2 phone calls yesterday and didn't do bad. The swelling is subsiding day by day. I'm practically good to go. xo

How lovely to be able to use only the most precious words to use up your quota of 500 each day. "I love you" would rank right at the top.

Your voice is returning !!!! I am so very glad to hear it! Fall is not far - you take it easy now and make that happen, Beautiful Judy - your voice is too precious to this world not to get stronger and stronger.
Oh those peach angels ! I love them ! How lucky the Beauty in your painting is to have them hovering around her. The piece is amazing - it reminds me of those old Russian icons made new again with the Judy-fication !
Sending you big love, my sweet Friend.

Hip hip hooray to hear that your health is improving. Slow and steady...and thank you so much for sharing the painting...especially the progression from start to finish. As I paint away it's good to remember that painting is a process...and sometimes there are many changes before you're done! I too am captivated with painting faces...don't know why, but I can't stop!

So, so glad you're on the mend Judy. They call my daughter 'have a chat', I hope she never has to go through what you have, she wouldn't cope.
The peaches look luscious as does the painting, you certainly haven't lost your touch in that department.

the high concentration of artists bringing in all those angels. So glad you are healing and please keep painting faces, I love your faces....xoxCorrine

The face on the peach painting has
a life behind it. Maybe I ought to
keep silent for awhile...it certainly
isn't hurting your creative ability!
Peach salsa..yum!

The peach angels are adorable. It is a miracle, isn't it, that we are given these bountiful trees to produce these juicy beauties. First flowers, leaves, little hard nodules at the end of stems and then they grow fat and ripe just for our pies and cobblers! I love faces too. I appreciate landscapes, but faces are what it's all about to me.

I always love to see your art work especially when it involveas a face. Have you seen Hans Silvester's photographs of the Omo people of Ethiopia who paint their faces and use flowers and foliage like jewellery? I was looking through some photographs today and thought of your work.
Pleased to read of your recovery.

i frequently get tired of myself (and that's with no surgery whatsoevah!). i am happy for you that your voice is returning. i probably said this to you before but i daily said to myself, it won't be like this forever, it won't be like this forever. my mantra at times of discouraging muddles. but your peach painting certainly does not discourage! it inspires me. it has been so incredibly long since i have painted anything other than my toes that i can hardly remember such joy. so thank you for sharing your beautiful creation.

As painting is a process, so is regaining your voice. The peaches on the tree get fatter, your voice will get stronger. Judy Wise a dull girl??? Can't even imagine that in my wildest dreams! A dull Judy is more fascinating than most of us mere mortals on our brightest day!

Love your painting too, and your journal pages are always inspiring.

Hi Judy, You visited my blog a couple of months ago and your comments were so helpful to me - I was in a terrible fugue at the time and you understood what it was really about and it gave me such a good spark to get up and do just do one thing! and your compliments were the one secret thing I really needed to hear from someone who didn't actually know me but thought I had value as an artist! So anyway - I just wanted to say thank you so much. The one thing I managed to finish was a college called "Selene, The Moon," which has significance for me, and for this whole past year of my life. I love your blog - I had a hard time finding it but so glad I perservered - I love the peach angels - they are so giving and beautiful.

i am thrilled to hear your voice is coming back! dull girl, humph! i see nothing of the sort here - just beautiful, vibrant, colorful life.

on the subject of getting tired of oneself, however, that's my theory on the need for sleep - i'm not sure i could be around myself for 24 hours without going batty! i need a break from myself...

I'm too busy to visit your blog on a regular base right now (or any other blogs for that matter....) but I wanted you to know that someone made me the biggest compliment last week.... "Your art journal pages remind me of Judy Wise's..." OH WOW!!!! She noticed that YOU are my biggest inspiration!!! AND she knows you... just wanted to share.
Glad you have a bit of a voice back... 500 words is quite a lot! LOVE your peach painting!!

Judy, you make me smile so much. Don't you love immersing yourself and letting the painting go on and on? It's so great to hear that you continue to get better.

I know what you mean about getting weary of onesself. I sometimes notice it's when I have been thinking too much, trying to adjust or change something or figure something out about me. And then I just get so bored with me. Sometimes doing something like painting angels until they are done is the perfect elixer.

rock on!
