Residency Dream Begins Now

It's been interesting to note that so many people I've spoken to about my residency don't really understand what I'll be doing there. For me, it's an opportunity to travel to an interesting place and work along side other artists. I won't be teaching. This is a time instead for filling the well, shutting out the world and working uninterrupted.

I wanted to choose a residency where other artists would be in attendance and doing their own work. Alone in the studio all day, then meeting over a shared meal. I loved the interviews in the film, "Who Does She Think She Is" where artists spoke of their lives and how they realized their dreams. We're dreaming all the time according to Jung, creating every moment of our lives by what we believe. How can we all dream of a better world and how can we help create it. I love talking to other artists about this concept and so many other ideas about transforming our lives. This is what's on my mind as I envision my time there.

I expect a lot of solitude at the residency too, which I love. I'm taking my big camera, my flip video and a laptop and expect that those things will keep me entertained. That along with painting and writing. I live in my colors and wordplay.

I'll be checking in with you guys too. I have my gear all packed now and spent the day quietly making last minute preparations. Tomorrow with only a few hours of sleep if I'm lucky I'll start out on my cross-country, cross-ocean 18 hour journey. My pockets will be full of all my loved ones, (that's you) right up near my heart.

I am hopeful, excited, curious. I'll see you there.

Have a wonderful time Judy. I lived in Barcelona once. Imagine me 16, walking the streets, drinking it all in. The city will seduce you. I'll be with you in spirit.

This makes me emotional, Judy. An experience that perhaps will be a once-in-a-lifetime artistic adventure! How incredible, a dream. I know you will capture the feelings, the mood, the joy, the creativity beautifully, like only you can do.

Have a good trip and enjoy your stay. Barcelona is very inspiring, and with time to reflect on it (and everything else) I'm sure some wonderful art will grow under your hands.

Have a wonderful time. I just listened to a talk from a Watercolor artist who did a month long residency in Zion National Park. She had a fabulous time and wonderful memories that she shared. Enjoy your time and I will look forward to seeing what changes occur for you.

I've heard of these wonderful, blissfully quiet places where you work all day and take meals in your studio or with the group. I envy you your chance and choice to do this. I can only imagine what you will learn (from yourself) while there.

Wonderful!
Just a note, I know you have been to Barcelona before, I was just there and was robbed! Lost my ipad and camera and ALL MY FOTOS! WHaaaaaa! And my knitting!
Hang on to your bag! Robbery is so common there that no one bats an eye! Ugh! Loved the rest of the city.

Hi, Judy! So happy to hear you are on your way over to Catalunya!
Let me know if there is anything you need while you are here, or if you there are things you need to find (art supplies, cool places to visit, eat, get inspired, must-dos, etc) in Barcelona, I sure can point you in the right direction!
Would love to connect while you are here in Spain (a Skype chat perhaps?).
Benvinguda i fins aviat!

Dear Judy;

How do you edit your Flip camera videos? I have a Flip camera and I don't know how to use it.

Since you'll be slacking around while you're there, I thought I'd ask.

When I see your journal pages I get emotional. I think next time I visit here I'll do what I did when I saw Cabin In the Woods... I'll put one hand in front of my face just in case you have a journal spread picture.

(you never warn me)

YOU ROCK!

bring me back a Danish. nice and tall.
