I have newfound respect for you who do art after a day at a 'real' job. I've never been more tired at the end of the day, even after a nap. Where is the time for the journal, the painting, the self-focused indulgence and daydreaming? I eked this out this afternoon through a haze of exhaustion. Yes, every little bit of paint and glue helps me feel grounded. If you have managed to go to a job and do any art at all you are my heros and bless your fortitude. I think the government should fund artists like they did in the 30's. Imagine the blossoming of beauty and mental health. Ahhh .......

Quickie Post
I have newfound respect for you who do art after a day at a 'real' job. I've never been more tired at the end of the day, even after a nap. Gotta be my all time favorite. Everything about it is just wonderful.
If only I could be as exhausted and still produce something so talented. :)
And yes, a day job would be exhuasting but so is working from home in another business. It's the time factor, we all have the same amount of time but art isn't always our first priority, dang it. LOL
Judy, I work from 6-4 at a construction company ... there are many aspects of my job I like, many I hate, many that put my brain to sleep, but it's stimulation of a different kind. Also, I'm fortunate in that I have lots of quiet thought time, which I spend mentally on art, ideas, etc. The exhaustion I feel from the Full Time Job disappears the second I hit my front door, the art revives those parts of me that have been toasting marshmallows in the idea fire all day ... and I've learned to accept the cycles -- when tired is tired, be tired, take a nap or go to bed early -- the studio WILL be there when I'm refreshed. I like the interactive stimulation of my job, too, talking to other adults, joking, etc. I need that aspect because at home I tend to be pretty solitary. ...blah blah, how I do run on! I love your piece, sorry to blather on so!

I totally agree with you...The government should fund the arts and do lots of other things (that they don't do) as well...
This is beautiful!!! Your work is very inspiring. I can relate to exhaustion, as a mom to a 5 year old and a 6 year old, holding a full time job, going to school and trying to squeeze in art. It's seeing art like yours that keep me going!!!

Thank you, Judy - been following your blog for a while. I know several bloggers have made 'unconnected' days that they don't turn on their computer. But for me - I have a full-time job, a 4 year old and a 2 year old (both boys and another boy on the way!), new puppy and a hubby - so that there are days when the only artistic stimulation I have is looking at blogs such as yours. Just nice to know that a true artist such as yourself does see that time is a factor!
Also, this is the most gorgeous work I have seen of yours. Honestly. The bird and the woman super-imposed is just very very ... I can't think of the word ... powerful. Wow.
I am with you and said much the same thing in my current post...although not as eloquently as you just did.
Your art is a great inspiration to me and I love this piece.

I did not realize how exhausted I really was until I started the new year working on just my own art and not living a double life of artist by night... product designer by day.

Glad you appreciate the work folks do- I taught art in the public schools for 28 years- I saw 185 students a day! I still made art and had no less than one art show a year- without a supportive partner and summer I wouldn't have survived. Sadly many art programs in the schools are being cut- this country is in trouble! Thanks so much for your sharing your art and thoughts! Terry

You are right, I don't know how people who work have the energy for art! I went back to work today for the first time to sub teach this year in the High Schools. I did it just to Pay for more Art and Soul classes....It will take 9 days of work to pay for 6 classes! Next year my ART is going to pay for these cool classes Yea.....

I tell you, I agree. I do admire those who hold down a job and produce art on a regular basis. I want to know what kind of vitamins they take!

OK, thanks! After seven hours of copy editing words on the screen, churning out five or six obits and then proofing paper copies of it all - and then coming home to push paint around - I'll take your admiration. I know I've felt overwhelmed at times because I can't do all the art I want because there's the "other work" for money and health insurance. You're right, Judy. Government should support artists. I can't even begin to imagine what wonders we'd have. There wouldn't be time for war, that's 4 sure. Sorry 2B so long. Your raven/woman is magnificent!
oh, thank you judy.....that felt so good coming from you....i have two jobs, day office job, nite jewelry business, and still trying to do creative art work whenever i can, i long to do it 24/7, and when i retire i will have that oppurtunity...you are extremely prolific artist, and wonderfully inspiring

I so agree I work a forty hour week in an office, fifty hours including traveling time, I hardly ever watch TV, my 'spare' time is so precious.
