Cold Wax Report

Here is some of the class work from the Cold Wax Group that met at Atelier SE over the weekend. Many of the attendees were members of the local encaustic group and so the transition to cold wax for them was a snap. We all got messy.

We only had two days together so many of our pieces were unfinished but it was impressive how many layers we were able to get down and I think these images speak for themselves regarding the high level of work that emerged.

I love to come to the classroom early and get everything prepared well in advance. The quiet room. Waiting. It's a time when I align myself with my intention to encourage. We all have the ability. We just need the courage.

Sometimes we undervalue the work we produce.

A couple of years ago when I was facing one particular surgery that could have left me without the ability to create any longer, I walked through my studio and realized with surprise that everything I had made was suddenly holy. Maybe the last things I would ever make.

It puts things in a new light.

Suddenly you think about the time you wasted being critical of your work, your love of materials, your sincere efforts to give.

Really. The futility of being so hard on yourself.

We ate lunch right next door both days. Sharing our thoughts over lunch was another precious experience.

It was all so beautiful. Thank you dear friends for joining me as we explored in unison. Paint, color and expression. It lifts me over every difficulty, it surely does. xo

So would you find me totally annoying and unfriend me on Facebook if I asked for an online class in cold wax AND polymer clay? Just trying to see how much I can push the envelope! Lovely work! Hugs, Laurie

thanks so much for posting all of this marvelous work! I am experimenting with the oil and cold wax on my own in Boulder Co. The photos really help me to see what is possible. (Anyone know anyone else who is doing this in Boulder????)
I would sign up for an online course!

Judy, you are SO right. We devalue ourselves. We always need to be humble (IMHO) and realize we have much more to learn and to push ourselves even more... but. The work we bring forth is sacred to the spirit of human creativity. All of us can inspire and bring beauty to others. We doubt ourselves so much sometimes that we share tentative shards of ourselves instead of embracing the whole of us and our energies. I don't mean to pontificate, but your words and artworks here just hit a spot with me. Kindness to ourselves is as important as kindness to others. And no one needs to learn this as much as I do!

"everything I made was holy" was a good reminder I must have been meant so see today, as I have not been keeping up posting on my blog or reading other artist blogs for months now. And here I am getting this message and seeing the fantastic art you posted. Artists sharing together is also a great thing, the friendships, sharing, learning and inspiration. Wish I could have been there too!

Oh, Judy - I stumbled upon this a couple of years late via a Pinterest photo. But your sentiments and musings are just as valid today as when you originally posted this. Thank you again for sharing yourself at Encausticamp - and through your blog. I hope to follow you forever!
