I painted 3 more faces in the
FaceBook I started in November. I'm getting close to the end of the book now and I'm thinking about tearing it apart and using the faces in another project. It's really been a good exploration.
Young faces are all soft and rounded. As the face ages the bones come up. There's poetry in that, yes? Now that I've seen this on the computer screen I see she needs an ear. ha ha. I'll give her one soon. I like checking out the images on the screen. It's like looking at them through a reducing glass; you can really see the flaws.
Needs more work, more modelling. And more shparkley gold paint.
Reflection photo. Having fun with the camera. I'm learning to like January. Lots of time (at last!) for new interests and personal exploration.
Wonderful faces. I especially love the first one. Would be lovely to sit and flick through these pages, see the progression.
ReplyDeleteJacky.
judy, every time i think about you and your 'face book' i smile. i might start one. oh the joy of a book of faces! oh the joy of a book of faces torn apart and used in other projects!! xo
ReplyDeleteYour first face is so contemplative
ReplyDeletejust like your reflection photo, this is a good time for contemplating, at least it is for me.
Sounds like you are just plain enjoying your self. Love to see all the faces when the book is done in a slide show...
xo
OMG, I adore these! The face is the most interesting thing I can paint. And yours are always so lovely, so full of depth and character. I think you should publish a "Facebook" - get it?
ReplyDeleteYour faces book is awesome! Each painting is so different and lovely!
ReplyDeletethe first face as it appeared on my dashboard is perfect in shape and tone, looking photographic in its reduced size - is it painted from your imagination?
ReplyDeleteYou do faces very well indeed Judy, ears or no ears.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe January's half way through already, back to work for me today for another twelve months, ho hum.
Beautiful faces...
ReplyDeleteYa, January's not all bad...
Glad you are finding peaceful moments in it !
Big Hugs !
I love the first face, a quiet gentle face so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteno one paints faces like you do! i could spot one of your beauties from a mile away.
ReplyDeleteFantastic pages Judy. Love them. They are so emotive.
ReplyDeleteLove your "facebook" project, and your paintings in it. I usually think the opposite about seeing the art on the computer screen - I think it becomes prettier than it is IRL. :-)
ReplyDeleteI recently discovered your blog and your art... been lurking for a while now and now I'm sure you're gonna STAY in my blogroll! Thanks for all the inspiration... you're marvellous!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are oh so good at this. I love how you layer the colors on and bring real life to your art.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for March 1st. I want all three of yours!!!!
i too am savoring the expanse of time and deeper silence of january. all these wonderful faces...i like the idea that you may tear them out of the book and use them in other projects- judy as the Creator/Destroyer/Creator, art imitates life in every vein.
ReplyDeleteand that SP of you with the green filtered light and filmstrip edges - one of my favorites ever!
beautiful. i love seeing the color key too.
ReplyDeleteNothing more fun than making faces, and yours are the best! Can't wait to see what you do with them in their next life...
ReplyDeletedeb...debra...debbie
I'm so amazed by the range of emotion/expression/history you are able to capture in your painted faces!!!
ReplyDeleteI see that same beautiful range in the last photograph. So lovely...

Absolutely lovely faces. (Maybe you should publish the book as is before you tear it apart. I think some Judy fans would be very happy.)

I love January too...Not so much sun down here and loads of cold. A perfect time for studying new things!
ReplyDeleteLove the faces. I can see your photography improving. Whatever your class is, it's working!!
I'm with Lynne Hoppe on this. Yes, to a face book, yea, to tearing it apart and using it again.
ReplyDeleteI'm mesmerized by the first one. My eye keeps going back and forth between the squares of color and the face. Somehow they go together perfectly.
Happy belated anniversary. Last year was our 31st. Yikes! The fun continues.
Did you get your tickets? Love, love, love.......
...forgot to ask...which template do you use/ Is it a blogger template or did you get it elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteI like how it stretches across the page. I am contemplating changing my format, when I get the time. I DEFINITELY have to change my header. Te one I use is a fused glass piece from 5 years ago.
Your face book faces inspire me to draw & paint portraits. Thanks for sharing your creative spirit.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love all your faces and what a great idea to put them all in that little book.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful project. So much expression and personality in each of these faces.
ReplyDeleteThese are really fabulous Judy. I'm noticing the "bony old bones" as my Mom would say. Character is one way to look at it. And yes, after all the holiday activity January has a great deal going for it!
ReplyDeleteI just re read this, yes, I come back for more inspiration which is always there in abundance for me...I can't imagine you tearing up these beautifully done faces for another project.
ReplyDeleteLOL
I have no doubt the next project will be every much as wonderful, but no no no you must KEEP these...
I know, silly me, you are full of more of these and better if that is possible...pardon my reactions.
Just excited about all the creations...okay, back to my own.
Just found your blog...gorgeous faces!!!!
ReplyDeletePS I made something this morning with one intention...and then I cut it up to make something else instead and it worked. Thanks (again for your ideas, encouragement and inspiration)!
ReplyDeleteLove these portraits! Kewl idea, duh, facebooks why didn't I think of that, you grabbed it and ran with it! Love ya Judy...
ReplyDeleteThe personality and texture of the folks that live in your imagination and find their way from your brushes to surface, always make me feel as if I'm looking into the faces of dear friends. Wonderful they are.
ReplyDeleteYour book is lovely. I made one of these accordians per your instructions and it didnt work well for me as the wetness of the paint loosened the pages from the glue. When i tried to reglue it i made an even bigger mess. So I think i'll do similar to you and take the book apart and use sections elsewhere. It did look like a cute and easy way t o bind a book though.
ReplyDeleteinstead of tearing the book apart, why not print out the pages since you've got photos and use the prints in new pieces? that way you'll have both
ReplyDeletebtw, just found your blog and I have already become a follower. your faces are beautiful and so REAL. your painting is excellent - I haven't read enough to see what media you use
This is kinda funny--did you ever realize that you can never see your own face? It is biologically impossible. All we ever see is a reflection of it.

Enjoy!
Hi Judy. I just love the first portrait especially. You can create with so many styles and feels. It's lovely.
