Sculpy Dolls

Hey, well, no posts for a week and then two in one day; it's feast or famine around here. I've been making dolls again.

I admit that posting the photos of student work inspired me to get out the clay. That and the fact that it's the first moment I've had in the studio. I hardly knew where to start with so many ideas twirling around vying for attention. Finally I settled down though and made a body for the demo head I started in the class at Art & Soul.

I've named her Bianca and she is very special to me. With chenille from a student (thanks Chris!) I fashioned white polka dots for her. With me it's either dots or stripes. In this case dots.

And then along came this one which I have named Green for my own reasons. It's Green's Birthday in a day or two and so she and Bianca are going to go to their favorite Thai restaurant and then eat ice cream afterward. They like to do that.

Green is a warrior; very strong and brave. She has known Bianca for many years and Bianca admires her.

I was going to give her a superhero cape but Green shrugged it off and settled for the helmet instead.

Bianca is more of a conformist than Green is; she likes to hide in sheep's clothing.

She is loving Oregon's mild weather so far this autumn and even heard tree frogs croaking outside. She plans on staying cozy this winter in her fuzzy coat of wool. Chenille. Whatever.

Happy Birthday, Green. This one's for you. xo

These are WONDERFUL! LOVE Bianca, especially... it's the sheep body that just gets me. Cute story too. These make me want to play with clay.... like I need one more thing to do and another obsession. Gee, thanks Judy.

Bianca is wonderful !!!!!

I've been shy of using sculpy and gravitate towards paper clay.

You've creating some fun characters here.

Inspirational as usual. I will have to get out the clay, I guess. I've been using paper clay and need to get going on doing more art. Talk, talk, talk. That's me!

i think Green and I wear the same size bra. I admire her decision to abandon a cape in favor of a more sensible helmet. Bianca can come by for tea any day, then graze in my yard. She's certainly cute, but Green and I are going to burn our bras then gallop off and find a nice adventure to sink our teeth into.

love these judy!
i think i've asked you this before, but can't remember....does sculpey take to encaustic at all? I am still wanting to do some figurative work with clay + encaustic....but going to a ceramics studio, plus firing there, is such a time investment (that I don't have!) that I doubt I will ever be able to pursue it. sculpey seems more managable. But maybe not. hmmm.

I love Bianca and Green. I'd love to see their story continued in a little book. I think they'd make fascinating stars in a children's story.

They're a riot! I love them and their story.

Maybe I should get out my large stash of Sculpey and, and... and look at it, remember the many, many beads I made with it and that now sit in a container somewhere, and put it back into hibernation.

You inspire the play out of me, Teacher Lady ! These dolls are so awesome ! I love their funny little faces and their silly costumes. The best part about them is their stories. I love how you have given them tales to tell, just like each one of us has inside of us. Happy Birthday, Green, and hugs to you, your friends and your maker !
