That's me tooting my horn about having my painting featured on the cover of this month's Skirt Magazine. Wish we could get it here on the west coast; it's a great magazine with articles of interest to all women and filled with beautiful art, photography and well written articles. I'm honored!
This is how I spent the weekend; creating this mixed -media book for a class proposal. I'll just show a few pages here and tell you that it's the most fun I've had in months and lets me know how much I've missed my good friend acrylic while I've been over romancing the wax. The colors just lift me and fill me; what a joy to work in such a rewarding medium.
I wish my friends could all fit in my studio and that we could play together. Unfortunately I'm such a slob that even I don't fit in my studio. I need to have all my scraps out at once to find what I want; I suspect many of you are the same.
This is a small portion of the book but I'm busting to share. And (psssst, lean closer) I'm teaching 2 classes again at Artfest next April. The schedule goes up August 1st and I'll remind you again around that time. I'm not going to be teaching as much next year (I swamped myself this year thinking that I might run out of time). I want to take each experience more slowly now and savor the friendships and time at home with my good man while we have it.
Meanwhile, 4th of July looms as a joyful time for families and friends. I have a houseguest coming to go junking with and to enjoy in the studio; I hope you make it a pleasant day wherever you are; east, north, south or west. We are all family.
WOW!!! I wish I could play in your studio or even just touch one of your paintings. Lovely!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Skirt cover! That MM book is pretty fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYou know I've made two books using your paper bag tutorial, and am saving materials for #3. The brown paper is a lovely foil for my pastel ideas.
ReplyDeleteNow, I see you've tempted me with another beauty of color & texture ; mmmmmm...those raw edges are calling me. And I think I have some canvas scraps...or is cotton material sturdy enough?
Can't wait to play and find out...
Lovely, my friend!
Stop over and see by blog. There is a surprise for you.
ReplyDeleteWooHoo! Congratulations, Judy! Toot away, that's a wonderful cover. You so deserve it. Glad to see you'll be teaching at ArtFest again next year.

I am getting that magazine! WHY don't they have it on the west coast? I think we need to protest!
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool painting, and that journal you've made... you can teach that class at my house! Please?
It's interesting, what you say about your studio. I am spending the weekend on mine, and two different artists over the past couple of days have mentioned the same thing about their studios being insane right now.
Your work is always lovely.
love the class proposal!
ReplyDeletejust a few days ago i received the indiearts dvd. i listened to your segment and was moved to tears----i was in the library with my laptop and a headset!--the part near the end where you are talking about your journal---it just struck such a strong chord with me...i have journaled several times a day since and i feel changed/awakened/so much more alive/more me. i have only played with a journal off and on but never really made it a part of my everyday life...thank you judy from the bottom of my heart!
Beautiful beautiful. I love the way you did the painting of that skirt on the journal page. It looks so fabulously textures. Great job.
ReplyDeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteI just started painting in acrylic again after a eight months of wax brain. I agree, it is so fun and amazing to paint in that medium.
Love your art work Judy. Got to your blog via a copy of Cloth Paper Scissors. I identify with a lot of your thoughts.... and the photo of your work desk...I work in a tiny space and it's always messy!
