Giving Thanks Redux

My latest encaustic. It measures 12 x 20" on a deep cradled wood panel.

So I'll be scarce for the next little while. House guests arriving in several hours. John is in the kitchen making his killer Pozole (the aroma is killing me!) and I need to go do my part to be ready. We'll be spending Thanksgiving with my oldest daughter at her house and drinking leisurely lemon drops here at home out of the beautiful new martini glasses John picked up yesterday. These particular friends are fascinating world travelers who share their exotic experiences with us. I love all my friends. People are my only wealth.

I am thankful for so much this year. Thankful that illness bypassed a young mother that I worried over. Thankful that my family has come through another year with health intact. Thankful for my husband. For my friends who are like my own arms and legs in my love and appreciation for them. I love my crinkly old body and I am grateful that it lets me enjoy my life without breaking down. It is a good body. Every morning the first thing I do is hold my own hand and greet the day and myself for having the gift of one more day.

I'll post when I can but if I haven't answered your email please forgive. Hugs to you and you and YOU.

  6. Gee wiz....I'd love to be sipping a martini with you and rubbing my hands over that encaustic painting and see it glow even more.

You are so inspiring. I wish I had more time to create. I take workshops to schedule my creative time. This time of year in particular, since I am in a retail business (I keep my lights soft and dim BTW) (hey, my Goodwill has florescent lights) I sit in my studio and imagine creating something.

    Anyway.....have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm thankful I found your blog. :-)

  8. Beautiful piece! For me encaustic has to do with cleaning, not with painting, so it is a discovery!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and continue to enjoy what you have been given.

  10. Judy, I've been reading you blog for a while and everytime I read about your husband cooking (today was the killer Pozole) I mean to ask about where you are from originally. All that Mexican food talk reminds me of my own home town of Albuqureque, NM. I don't know of other so enamored of Mexican food as theose from NM.

  11. For Linda; I grew up in Arizona and John fell in love with Mexican cuisine as a result of several trips to Mexico and a discerning palate. When I met him he didn't much care for americanized-mexican food but the real thing is fabulous.

  12. Hi Judy,

Ah ha, Arizona. It's the only other state that has Mexican food as good as NM's. :) There is something about the hot spicyness of the food from that region that can't be matched anywhere else.

Love your art and even created some gesso'd newspaper pages that freed my creative process. Thanks for all you add to the art community.

  14. I have been enjoying your blog & your adventure with encaustics lately, but haven't left messages. It is always inspiring. I finally got the issue of Cloth Paper Scissors that features you and your work. Enjoyed that too, of course. I am thankful to find wonderful artists who are willing to share their work and techniques, Happy Thanksgiving to you
