Update

This is Shellie posting for my mom Judy.
She wants you all to know that she had surgery yesterday for a torn retina, and is banned from reading, or being on the computer for 2 weeks. She woke up yesterday and had smeary blurry vision in the right eye. She then drove herself (that's just like her) to the urgent care where they told her she had a torn retina. They did cryosurgery and scheduled a follow up for Monday. She is going crazy because she loves the computer....in fact the only thing she loves more than the computer is her eyeball! We should have more information after her Monday appointment. Mom says to stop a minute and thank your eyeballs for all they do!
P.S. the pictures in the journal are from the oral surgery she had last Wednesday. She is not allowed to journal either. No REM allowed for 2 weeks. When it rains it pours!

  6. Thanks Shellie - Sending love to Judy's eyeballs, may she heal quickly and gently ease back into it all.

I am reminded of a Yoga class I did once, where we were all blindfolded. Like Luke using 'the force' in Star Wars.

Maybe a good opportunity to try some blind-folded sculpture :)

    Oh Judy...

I'm sorry to hear your woes...
just sit back and let the necessary time pass and before you know it, you'll be back into the full creative swing of things!

I did a bit of a collage page, started with a dictionary page, and painted a face on top...inspired by you the other day...but then I got carried away and pretty much burried the face under layers of paint!

    oh well....

    take care of your eyeball...

    ciao carmelina

  17. Oh Judy, I think for some reason you were really not meant to come to Australia to meet us this year. Please take all the doctor's advice and rest even though it will be frustrating. You will be in our thoughts. Thanks for posting for your Mum Shelly

  18. What a sweet daughter you are! Please tell your mum I send her my love and healing vibes. As someone who spend alot of time in the hospital and in bed, I can totally relate to how frustrating it is to not be able to do the things you love.

Tell her I said to behave and do what the doc says-it will mean she can get back to her usual as quickly as possible.

    *BIG HUGS* Judy xoxo

P.S. Your mum is a woman after my own heart-stubborn and self sufficiant. I've driven myself to the hospital when I probably shouldn't have too!

  20. oh my goodness gracious! i can't decide what in the world to even say to this, judy! my heavens. well, i know how i was when they told me i could not use my right arm/hand at all. i painted with my left hand. i couldn't stand not to paint. but girl, your eye is serious business. you be good and rest that eye. rest the whole package. behave, now. no cheating. i wish we were closer 'cause i'd come over and read to you. i've got some uproarious funny stories and i'd do voices to make you snort while you could bundle up and drink tea. that would be good. make john do that. i bet he could do some very good voices while telling stories. all right. i'm pigging up the comment box. i just want you to know that you are loved and we are all thinking of you and holding you right in our hearts. feel better sweetest girl!

    [stops hyperventilating]
Maybe Shellie could borrow some audio books from the library for you. (And if you're reading this yourself, I'm going to drive down and lecture you in person. So there.)

  57. Oh my goodness, bad enough for someone who doesn't love every kernel of life, but for your MOM??? I am so sorry, but send along healing thoughts to her.

Go to the library and check out some great books on tape. Time to heal that eye and make everything better.

Our bodies do poop out on us piece by piece, but luckily we can be treated and get back on track.

This may sound dumb, but when I had bad eye problems my doctor said "eat plenty of blueberries." So I do. Get your Mom some too.

    All best wishes,

  64. Dearest Judy,

You know what this means, don't you? Someone (with a capital "S") wants you to slow down. ;-) You've earned it, but knowing how you hate to be idle, I have a feeling that this will become a time of deep reflection and newfound insight into the wondrous spirit that lives inside the beautiful tabernacle that is Judy Wise.

You're the only person I know who seems to be multiplying brain cells instead than losing them, so I will look forward to seeing what becomes of all this so-called "downtime." Get well, my friend, and know that you are loved. I wish I were there to give you a hug.
